Pet Insurance Claim of the Week: Congestive Heart Failure

Smudge is a 6-year-old cat who has been through a lot in the last few years. Most recently, she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure.

Congestive heart failure or CHF is when the heart does not efficiently pump blood throughout the body which results in blood and fluid buildup in parts of the body. It may be recognized by swelling, coughing, panting and trouble breathing.

Unfortunately, there isn’t any one-off cure for CHF. However, it can be alleviated with medications and reducing exercise levels.

Smudge is covered by Trupanion’s cat insurance so his owner has one less thing to worry about while taking care of her kitty.
