Pet Insurance Claim of the Week: Myelopathy

This week’s featured pet insurance claim is for a Pug named Enzo. Enzo has recently been experiencing problems with his spine including spinal instability, which has unfortunately led to the need for spinal surgery.

It is believed that Enzo has some form of myelopathy which is a condition that causes loss of strength and coordination due to an autoimmune disorder.

Enzo’s owner took advantage of Trupanion’s pre-approval form in which you may submit the form and an itemized estimate of procedures from your veterinarian. That way, they were able to know ahead of time that their claim would be paid and they could continue with treatment for Enzo.

This little dog will soon be getting an MRI scan and spinal surgery for which Trupanion will cover the costs.

Pet insurance claim estimate: $5,003.31
Deductible applied: -$0.00
Exam fee: pending
10% co-pay: -$500.33
Trupanion repaid: $4,502.98

*Interesting fact about this particular case: Before we received the pre-approval form, we received a related claim. It was initially denied, but the policyholder completed the claims dispute process to have it overturned. So, within 24 hours we received the initial claim, processed and denied it, received the dispute, processed it and overturned the denial, and received and processed the pre-approval form.
