Pet Insurance Claim of the Week: ACL Rupture

I’ve got an interesting story for you this week! While I was looking through claim reports to choose the Pet Insurance Claim of the Week, I noticed two very similar claims, and they both came from the same policyholder!

She has two Golden Retrievers that are over 7 years old (and have been enrolled with us since they were puppies). Both of these dogs recently tore their ACLs and needed surgery (which is not cheap)!

Clementine tore her left cranial cruciate ligament and Winston tore his right cranial cruciate ligament. Surgery is typically required for most of these situations as failure to repair the torn ligament can result in permanent damage to the animal’s ability to walk and run.

Clemintine‘s Pet insurance claim amount: $4,242.76
Deductible applied: $0.00
Exam fee: -$160.00
Unrelated charges: -$35.00
10% co-pay: -$404.78
Trupanion repaid: $3,642.98

Winston‘s Pet insurance claim amount: $4,077.16
Deductible applied: $0.00
Exam fee: -$0.00
Unrelated charges: -$35.00
10% co-pay: -$404.22
Trupanion repaid: $3,637.94

It’s a great thing to have pet insurance to cover the costs when you get hit with not one, but two cruciate ligament repair surgeries all in the same week!
