Pets and Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA) – Trupanion

This week’s pet insurance claim of the week is for a Portugese Water Dog puppy named Gibbs. He was diagnosed with Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia which is an autoimmune disorder in which the body attacks its own red blood cells.

Some symptoms include rapid breathing, lethargy, pale gums, dark urine, weakness, and loss of appetite. Gibbs’ treatment included blood transfusion, plasma transfusion, and various medications.
