I have mentioned in previous blog posts about the dangers of the Sago Palm plant and how it is poisonous if ingested by our pets. We get occasional claims for plant poisonings and I would like to spotlight this particular claim this week because poor Babe the dog had to make several visits to the vet to ensure good health after this unfortunate incident.
When a dog ingests parts of the Sago Palm, it can cause lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea and ultimately lead to liver failure.
The pet insurance claim amount below is the total of several invoices.
Pet insurance claim amount: $1,535.16
Deductible applied: $0.00
Exam fee: -$112.00
Unrelated charges: -$29.00
10% co-pay: -$139.42
Trupanion repaid: $1,254.74
It’s important to be aware of which plants are dangerous to pets, especially if your pet is new (unpredictable) or a chewer! If your pet has ingested plant materials and you notice any unusual behaviors, be sure to seek veterinary attention immediately.
