Last night the Westminster Kennel Club evaluated each dog who won Best of Group and announced their pick for this year’s Best of Show. The lucky dog was GCH Foxcliffe Hickory Wind, the Scottish Deerhound!
Foxcliffe is a 5-year-old female who was bred by Cecilia L. Dove & Dr. R. Scott Dove and who is owned by Sally Sweatt & Cecilia L. Dove & Dr. R. Scott Dove. She beat out seven other dogs representing around 200 different dog breeds.
The Scottish Deerhound is a member of the Hound Group. The breed originated during the Middle Ages in Scotland and was used for coursing stags. These hounds are mellow inside and active outside. They are very well mannered, sensitive, easygoing, and amiable. These are excellent with children and other pets, but may be reserved toward strangers. They need a good amount of daily exercise, like a long walk or active playtime.
