I was looking through the claims report for the past week and noticed that among the top claims, two were for the same pet. Charley the 2-year-old Labradoodle has been battling with immune mediated hemolytic anemia. This is a condition in which antibodies attack the red blood cells and leave cell debris in the blood stream. It may be caused by a parasite, virus, toxin, medication, or other unexplained immune reaction.
Symptoms include lethargy, depression, vomiting, abdominal pain, and possible jaundice and bruising. It is treated with corticosteroids.
