I love baking for my two dogs, Cooper, a five year old adopted Chihuahua and Ruby, a five (or six or seven!) year old adopted Pug. When you love your dogs, you want to give them the best and while I haven’t mastered making my own organic dog food, quite yet, they absolutely flip when I make them this recipe of delicious and nutritious Peanut Butter & Banana Biscuits.
There’s no need to be intimidated when it comes to cooking for your pet. They love to be taste testers! The best thing about this recipe is you can easily lift out the bananas and add sweet potato if that’s something your pup prefers. Or if fresh breathe is something your dog needs a little help with, why not add some parsley or fresh mint? The most important thing is just have fun with it!
1 banana, peeled
2/3 cup of rolled oats
1 cup of flour
6 tablespoons of peanut butter
Preheat oven to 300°F. Put banana in a large bowl and use a spoon to mash it thoroughly. Add flour, oats, peanut butter and egg and stir well to combine. Set aside for 5 minutes.
Roll out mixture and cut with a bone shaped cookie cutter or roll into 24 balls, using about 1 tablespoon dough for each; transfer to a large par baking sheet. Use the back of a spoon to press each ball into a (1 1/2- to 2-inch) coin. Bake until firm and golden brown on the bottom, 40 to 45 minutes. Set aside to let cool completely.
It’s best to store these in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Or, freeze them to give to your pal later; just be sure to thaw the treats before handing them out.
Makes about two dozen.
