Just two weeks ago, our COTW was for a foxtail incident, and I wanted to feature another foxtail claim to emphasize on the danger of these plants and how important it is to be aware of them.
Ruger is a 2-year-old black Labrador Retriever. His owners noticed that he began to cough up blood so he was taken to the vet for diagnosis. His CT scans revealed an abscess in the esophagus, likely caused by a foxtail. Ruger had also developed pneumonia which was probably due to the abscess.
Ruger received a thoracotomy (surgery) to remove the abscess in which they found three foxtails.
