Pet Insurance Claim of the Week: Foxtail

Foxtails truly are scary! A few weeks ago, Heather wrote a blog post about the dangers of foxtails here on this blog.

This week’s claim of the week is about a mixed-breed dog named Ellie who is about 2 years old and lives in California. She has had a number of claims for the same issue over the past three weeks when the owners first noticed her hacking, coughing, and drooling. They did notice her eating foxtails.

A week later, the owners noticed a mass on Ellie’s throat which soon became infected. This most recent claim is for the neck surgery that Ellie needed to get the foxtail removed.

Total claim amount: $4,403.00
Deductible applied: -$0.00
Exam fees: -$90.00
10% co-insurance: -$431.30
Trupanion repaid: $3,881.70

Ellie’s bills for this incident totaled over $7,400!
