Guest Post: A Fiesty Cairn Terrier Named Ziggy

The following is a guest post written by Brent at Optimize Guys. Brent loves dogs. He volunteers his time with Rich Currie at HealthyJointCare.com, providing the top trusted dog health products on the market.

Ziggy, like many other Cairn Terriers, is very independently minded, but at the end of the day is willing to show you he’s your number one fan. His owner, Brent, has had to deal with a lot of pet health and wellness issues with Ziggy, but wouldn’t trade him in for the world.

Ziggy’s quirks can be frustrating at times, but it’s really what makes him so unique. But Brent recommends anyone interested in adopting a Cairn take the time to research the breed in great depth. Someone who isn’t able to provide the time to train and challenge these little monsters will be tested at every step.

For such a small breed, Cairns are very smart and eager to learn how to get what they want. Although, with a little bit of training and fun, the owner can get an extremely rewarding relationship with this 15-pound buddy.

Cairns, who originated in Scotland, are known as vermin hunters and tunnelers, so you have to be prepared for that! Just like Toto on the Wizard of Oz, Ziggy is good at frisbee, running fast, and digging.

These dogs are often touted as a non-shedding breed with hypoallergenic fur. However, it’s important to remember that all dogs have dander no matter what type of fur they have. Brent does stand behind the shedding claim though. Compared to a lab there is far less clean-up with dog hair!
