Pet Insurance Claim of the Week: Obstipation and Septic Peritonitis

Cheddar the cat has an owner who sure is thankful that he’s insured! He has been experiencing complications with obstipation which is a form of severe constipation, as well as septic peritonitis which is inflammation of the lining inside the abdomen. Cheddar needed surgery on his colon.

His owner notes:

He’s at home now finally after 5 weeks at the hospital. Doing not too bad considering it all! I think he’s used up most of his 9 lives now what with his history of laryngeal mass, subtotal colectomy and dehiscience and subsequent sepsis, esophagastotomy tube and all the multiple blood transfusions he’s needed!

Total claim amount: $20,412.12
Deductible applied: -$0.00
Exam fees: -$0.00
10% co-insurance: -$2,041.21
Trupanion repaid: $18,370.91
