Most Popular Dog Names in Japan

Smiling DogIt is always so much fun for us to look through our database and see all the fun, unique, and creative things our policyholders name their pets. Occasionally we will share with you some that we find, like the most unique pet names, the top 10 famous cat names, the top 10 outer space pet names, and the top 5 Thanksgiving pet names.

Well, it turns out we aren’t the only ones who do this. In October, a pet insurance company in Japan scoured their databases to determine the most popular dog names for 2011 and it looks like Japanese dog owners have quite the sweet tooth. Here are the top five:

  1. Koko
  2. Marron (French for “chestnut”)
  3. Choco (chocolate)
  4. Momo (peach)
  5. Cocoa

Ther ‘sweet’ names that made the top 50 were Mocha, Shocora (chocolate), Pudding, Rum and the Japanese words for “apricot” and “walnut.”
