A father and sons were hiking with their 1-year-old Shepherd mix, Lola, when she decided to try and fetch a tossed water bottle over the cliff and find herself 150 feet below on a very narrow ledge.
The 19-year-old son, Ivan Salas, made his way down to rescue his dog. “It was extremely scary,” he told Los Angeles station KABC. ” I don’t know what I was thinking when I went down. It’s not just a dog, it’s family and my best friend at the same time, so I had to do it.”
Unable to use a helicopter, rescuers rappelled down to rescue Salas and Lola. They were both hanging onto the side of the cliff for almost two hours before they were saved. Fortunately, everyone made it out unhurt.
I think there are a few lessons to be learned from this story, especially “don’t litter”!
