Yesterday, Trupanion CEO Darryl Rawlings was quoted in a story on King 5’s Pet Dish, a popular pet blog published by the local Seattle news station. Rawlings was asked to discuss his thoughts on the incredibly sad story that recently came out of the United Kingdom – pet owners in the UK are intentionally hurting and even killing their pets to collect on a pet insurance payout.
The writer wanted to know if Rawlings had heard of this type of insurance fraud happening in the United States and if he was concerned about it occurring. Rawlings said he is confident Trupanion’s policyholders would not resort to this horrific act and that it wouldn’t be lucrative for them even if they did because Trupanion does not reimburse pet owners for the value of their pet after the pet dies.
“We don’t think pets are like art or something that’s replaceable,” he said.
