Happy Birthday: Pupcakes Recipe & Kitty Birthday Cake

The following recipe is brought to you by What The Cupcake

What better way is there to celebrate your dog’s birthday than by baking a cake or cupcakes? As we all know, pets love special treats. This recipe is one treat you can give to your pet and be certain that it was made with love. (Scroll down for cats!)

Peanut Butter Banana Pupcakes Recipe

2 ripe bananas
2 cups water
1 egg
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 Tbsp baking powder
2 Tbsp honey
1/2 cup peanut butter

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees (F). Spray cupcake tin with olive oil or grease with butter.

2. In a large bowl, mash bananas. Add all ingredients except peanut butter and mix until well combined. Add peanut butter and continue stirring until well blended.

3. Fill cupcake tin 3/4 full. If using mini muffin tin, bake for 15 minutes. For regular-sized muffins, bake for 25 minutes.

Mix together about 2 cups of plain yogurt and 1/2 cup peanut butter. (Consistency will vary depending on your choice of yogurt and peanut butter, but if the frosting is too runny, you can add 1/4 cup all-purpose flour)

Decorate with kibbles or pieces of treats and enjoy!

Kitty Birthday Treats

The above recipe may not suit your cat as they are carnivores by nature, and do not care much for flour or sugar.

To make a special birthday cake for your cat, mix together some ground meat or poultry with a raw egg*. You might also try canned tuna or salmon. Cats prefer their food raw, but if you are planning a party with small children then it would be best to cook your cat’s special treat! You might also decorate his “cake” with pieces of kibble or dry treats.

*According to Neils C. Pederson’s book, Feline Husbandry: Diseases and Management in the Multiple Cat Environment, “Salmonellosis isn’t seen very often in cats and it is believed they have a natural immunity to the bacteria.” More info at ehow.com.
