Remember the 1977 musical Annie about the little orphan girl and her adventures in finding a family to take her in? Well, the musical is coming back to life and the search for Annie’s companion in this film has completed. Sunny, a rescued shelter dog from the Houston, Texas, area, will play the role of Sandy. William Berloni, who trained the first Sandy, will also continue to be the trainer for the new star.
PEDIGREE Food for Dogs has partnered with the Award-winning musical, Annie, to provide professional nutrition for the dogs. Treats from Food for Dogs will also be used for training. Producer Arielle Tepper Madover shared her thoughts on the partnership,
We are extremely excited to have the PEDIGREE Brand as our partner because of our shared interest in finding homes for shelter animals. Annie is about a girl and her dog desperately seeking a place to call home, and we’re hoping Sunny’s story inspires audiences to consider adopting their next pet. (Bryant)
There will also be a television program dedicated to the search to find Sandy and that will air on NBC in October. This television special will be produced by Al Roker Entertainment and Annie Broadway LLC and sponsored by PEDIGREE. Berloni will be featured, due to his experience with training and rescuing shelter dogs.
Annie will open at the Palace Theatre in New York on November 8th and tickets are on sale now at ticketmaster.com.
