Pet Insurance Claim of the Week: Peritonitis

Buddy is a young, 1-year-old mixed breed dog. Unfortunately, Buddy recently experienced a serious health issue with peritonitis. The peritoneum is the lining of the abdominal cavity and peritonitis is the inflammation of this lining. If the condition becomes severe, it can become filled with excess fluid.

Some signs of this condition are vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, and abdominal pain. Treatment includes IV fluids and medications, and surgery in cases where the condition is very serious.

Buddy’s condition was very serious and he needed exploratory surgery. Buddy was at the emergency veterinary clinic for 18 days receiving medication, care and monitoring.

Total claim amount: $9,709.51
Deductible applied: -$0 ($500 deductible met)
Exam fees: -$0
10% co-insurance: -$970.95
Trupanion repaid: $8,738.56

    Hi Stacy,

Happy Holidays to you and Ellie :)

Poor Buddy. Having to be away from home and staying in a kennel at the vet for 18 whole days is a real bummer.

That, on top of having a serious gut condition. I really feel for him and his human parent.

They say that the gut is the emotional center. If the gut is disturbed, then emotions become imbalanced – not to mention the physical difficulties.

Good digestion and a healthy gut is important to all mammals. Inflammation can also lead to ulcers, infection, and even cancer if not discovered early enough and treated quickly.

Thank you Trupanion for being there for Buddy and for covering around $9,000 in expenses.
