Pet Insurance Claim of the Week: Rattlesnake Bite

Buddy the 1-year-old dog recently made an unexpected vet visit due to a suspected rattlesnake bite! Fortunately, Buddy had been previously vaccinated which helps to decrease the severity of a rattlesnake bite. When healthy dogs are given the rattlesnake vaccine, it allows their body to make antibodies against rattlesnake toxin, thereby increasing their chances of survival in case of a bite.

When a pet is bitten by a rattlesnake, they will need immediate veterinary care, regardless if they have been vaccinated. Buddy was taken to the emergency clinic where he received fluid therapy and antivenin. He was closely monitored and was hospitalized overnight to ensure his recovery.
