Pet Insurance Claim of the Week: Benign Tumor Removal

Cotton the 6-year-old Miniature Poodle is featured in this week’s pet insurance claim. At his recent routine dental exam, a benign tumor was found on his jaw. A benign tumor is a group of cells that multiply but do not travel through the body (metastasize) or invade surrounding tissue. In many cases of benign tumors, they can be left alone unless they affect the animal’s range of motion or quality of life. Cotton’s tumor was growing into his jaw, so his veterinarian recommended removal.

Cotton was in the vet hospital for only a day where he was anesthetized and received surgery to remove the tumor. He was sent home with medication and an E-collar to recover.

This claim is a great example of pet insurance in action because, as pet owners, we never know when a health concern might arise with our pets, even if we are doing all we can to keep them healthy and protected.
