We adopted Ruby from the New Hampshire SPCA. She was 8 years old and in rough shape, requiring a triple mastectomy before we could even take her home. After a week she was up and around, happy and full of energy. A month later, we walked the American Cancer Society’s Breast Cancer walk, together, decked out in pink—both of us cancer survivors.
Our veterinarians at Stratham-Newfields Veterinary Hospital suggested we consider pet insurance for some time. We finally signed up with Trupanion, thinking it wouldn’t be necessary for a while. Soon after, Ruby started vomiting so we took her for some routine tests to find the cause. She was diagnosed with Pancreatitis. That afternoon was the first claim we submitted to Trupanion, just 33 days after we signed up.
Ruby was started on several pain medications and anti-inflammatories and had her Pancreas biopsied. When the biopsies came back, it was confirmed. Ruby had Pancreatitis so severe, her kidneys were being affected. We were devastated but hopeful, and for a few weeks she seemed to get better, but a month later she started vomiting again and was rushed to Port CityVeterinary Referral Hospital for emergency surgery. The Pancreatitis had caused so much damage that Ruby’s kidneys were failing. Two days later, after several attempts to stabilize her, Ruby died in our arms.
Trupanion took away the financial stress during that time. After our $50 deductible, they paid 90% of all costs, and were so kind, concerned and amazingly easy to work with. I can honestly say, Trupanion is one of the best companies we’ve ever worked with.
We are glad to say our recently adopted Sassie, a 3 yr old chihuahua/dachshund mix, is happily enrolled with Trupanion.
