I’ve had Trupanion insurance for 5 years. They’ve denied ever claim we’ve made, and even told us that we weren’t doing our part to ensure the health of our dog.

We finally submitted a dental bill for 1900.00 and were told that we weren’t providing adequate preventative dental care at home. We brush our dog’s teeth every day and often 2 times a day. Our vet said that given our home care regimen, it was genetic.

When I told this to the woman on the phone her response was “I just work here.” I said “of course you do, that’s why I’m contacting you.”

We cancelled this week, and I would strongly encourage others considering Trupanion to think otherwise.

      Hi Rictor,
I’m sorry to hear that you’ve had a less than positive experience with us. After reviewing your policy, I see that there were several claims that were covered. For some of the claims, you didn’t see payout because the vet bills were less than your deductible amount. Any follow-up claims for the same conditions, you would have seen payout since you reached the deductible which only needs to be met once for life for any given condition.
Dental cleanings are a direct exclusion of our policy because it is considered wellness/routine care. Other dental issues are eligible for coverage so long as you have been following your veterinarian’s recommendations for routine dental care. We offer the option to appeal a claim, should you and your veterinarian disagree with the outcome.
We’re sorry to lose you as a policyholder and wish you and your dog well!
