Dog Insurance Coverage
Simply put, we provide one simple plan that covers 90% of your unexpected veterinary costs, including hospital stays, diagnostic tests, medications, surgeries, and other treatments that arise when your canine friend is ill or injured.* The 90% coverage kicks in after you meet your deductible, and there are no limits on the amount we reimburse.
What is covered?
Basically, we cover almost every type of injury or illness so long as it is not considered pre-existing. We do not exclude any conditions or breed-specific ailments. We even cover hereditary and congenital conditions, provided signs were not evident before your policy coverage date.
Coverage for new injuries or illnesses begins after a waiting period of 5 days for injuries and 30 days for illnesses.
What is not covered?
Trupanion does not cover the initial exam fee, any applicable taxes, or wellness and preventative care (including flea treatments, dental cleanings, and vaccinations). Like all pet insurance providers, we also do not cover pre-existing conditions. If your pet showed signs or symptoms of a condition prior to full policy coverage, then it is considered pre-existing and not eligible for coverage.
We encourage you to read through your dog insurance policy (or check out our sample policy) to make sure you understand what is and isn't covered.
Trupanion’s Pet Owner Assistance Package, available for an additional cost, helps provide financial protection against unforeseen events or circumstances caused by or associated with your pet. The Pet Owner Assistance Package is designed to help protect renters, travelers, or those who may have medical issues themselves. It covers:
Third-party property damage caused by your pet
Trip cancellation costs due to a sick or injured pet
Boarding fees if you are ever hospitalized
Advertising and reward costs for a lost pet
Cremation or burial costs for a pet who has suffered an accident
