“We always wanted a Great Dane, so it was just our (or Monroe’s) luck that our daughter worked at a local shelter where a small, blind Great Dane pup was abandoned. Due to the unknown severity of her medical complications, she was unable to be put up for adoption, leaving the options of euthanasia or sending her to a rescue.
After meeting this happy-go-lucky girl, we couldn’t bear to leave her fate up to anyone else. So, after much soul searching, we adopted Monroe, named for her Marilyn Monroe-type beauty mark. Soon after, the eye infections started – one after another.
As Monroe grew, she began to put up a sturdy fight just attempting to get medicated drops into her eyes. We had taken her to an ophthalmologist, who, for Monroe’s comfort, recommended having a bilateral enucleation. With the assistance of Trupanion, we were able to have Monroe’s faulty, painful eyes removed, and provide her with a more comfortable life. Trupanion covered the entire surgery! We are so glad we have Trupanion because we know whatever issues might arise, and medical care is needed, we have backup. Veterinary care can become very expensive, but pet medical insurance can help alleviate the costs of unexpected care. These days, Monroe is doing great! She is much happier without her bothersome eyes and finds her way around using throw rugs and bubble wrap. Thank you, Trupanion! We couldn’t have done it without you!”
