#BestFriendFriday: Adopt a Pet From the Northeast
|Ready to adopt a new best friend? For the next five weeks, we will showcase adoptable pets from different regions across the United States and Canada. On each #BestFriendFriday our goal is to find homes for the pets featured and to raise awareness about some great shelters in North America. Take a look through this week’s pets and share with friends or family that may be looking for a new cuddle buddy or hiking partner. If you’re interested in adopting any of these pets or looking at other adoptable animals, please reach out to the shelter or rescue. Happy #BestFriendFriday!
Leonardo
Name: Leonardo
Location: Northeast Animal Shelter
Bio: 4-year-old Leonardo is a wonderful and very smart Lab Hound Mix. He is Up-to-Date and has been neutered. He is also a recent graduate from Doggie Boot Camp at Loyal Canines. Leonardo arrived here 3 months ago from Georgia and has often been overlooked. Leonardo is looking for a forever home, with adults that understand his needs and can provide structure in their home setting. He asks that you also provide belly rubs, as he really does enjoy them. If you want to learn more about Leonardo, please visit the Northeast Animal Shelter. They are located at 347 Highland Ave. in Salem, MA. Visiting hours are Monday-Friday 10-8 and weekends 10-6. Coretta
Name: Coretta
Location: Animal Rescue League of Boston
Bio: Coretta is a very sweet 3-year pit bull mix lady! She loves to play outside and run around but also enjoys just hanging out and relaxing with ARL staff. She appears to be selective about her friends and has exhibited guarding behavior over food and treats, so for these reasons, she would not do well with another dog or small children in the home. Our staff and volunteers have been working with Coretta on her manners and she has made great strides. She loves to snuggle and sit on people’s laps, loves to play tug and loves to run around with plush squeaky toys. She also adores her dog buddies who are as big and have the same play style as her. She still has a high energy level and will need a lot of exercise, (mental enrichment is great on days she can’t get a long walk or run in). Coretta would be a great candidate for obedience classes, which are offered here at ARL – discounted for adopters.

Punky
Name: Punky Brewster
Location: Companion Pet Rescue
Bio: Punky Brewster is just around 4 years old and weighs just about 60 lbs. She is a very sweet girl that loves everybody that she meets. She walks great on a leash. Punky is good with most dogs but doesn’t like to be challenged by one. She currently lives with 4 foster brothers and sisters and gets along great with all of them – she respects the smaller senior dog, plays (hard!) with the 2 younger ones and submits to the quiet alpha matriarch. She doesn’t like kitties at all, unfortunately. Great with kids but because of her energy and size would not be a good fit in a home with very small children. Punky is one of the most affectionate dogs you will meet and she can’t wait to find her forever home!
