It is wildfire season and wildfires have broken out in California, Oregon, and Washington. Below you will find current information on pet-friendly evacuation shelters and additional disaster resources during this emergency situation.
Wildfires break out in California, Oregon, and Washington
Yosemite Wildfire- California
A large wildfire is quickly gaining momentum and has caused an evacuation of Yosemite. Mariposa County is also on high alert. A shelter is open at New Life Christian Fellowship 5089 Cole Rd. Mariposa, CA 95338.
According to www.mariposacounty.org; the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Department of Animal Control, Central California Animal Disaster Team (CCADT) and the Mariposa SPCA can assist animal owners during a disaster. If you need to evacuate, contact one of these organizations for help with your pet.
Evacuating without pets:
If you are unable to take your pet with you, contact Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Division (209) 966-3614. Provide the officers with your name, address, contact numbers, description of pets. Also, be prepared to provide information on where you want your pets transported to of if you would like your animals cared for at home.
Evacuating with pets:
If you are leaving home with pets and need assistance call CCADT at (559)433-9663. A representative can assist with getting your pets to safety.
Columbia River Gorge Wildfire- Oregon
There is a rapidly moving fire along the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon. According to www.redcross.org, a shelter has opened in the Dalles Middle School in Wasco County. Josephine County Animal Protection may be available to assist those evacuating with pets. Check with your local shelter for more available pet-specific resources.
Spokane Valley Wildfire – Washington
First of all 700+ Homes have been evacuated in Spokane Valley (as of today). The Red Cross Northwest has opened a shelter in Bowdish Middle School in Spokane Valley. The Heart of Spokane which is a humane evacuation animal rescue team. They are there to assist evacuees with pets.
We have an update in regards to additional shelters that have opened. An evacuation shelter is open at Wahluke Junior High in Mattawa, WA. Due to the wildfire growth portions of 1-90 highway have closed.
