Nothing makes us happier than helping pets and their owners every day. At Trupanion HQ, there is always something new to learn or a new office dog to meet. As you can imagine, there are a wide variety of dog breeds in the office on any given day. In this installment of our Working at Trupanion series, we sat down with Trupanion breeder account manager, Lacey O’Connell for an inside look at all things dog breed and what it’s like to work for medical insurance for pets.
A day in the life of a Trupanion
breeder account manager
What is your role at Trupanion?
Breeder account manager.
How did your career journey start at
I started at Trupanion on the sales team in 2016.
What do you love most about your role?
The people we work with are passionate about
what they do and I’m constantly learning from them.
What’s your favorite part of your day?
First thing in the morning. We always have a
lot going on, so it’s fun and exciting to see what’s come up from our accounts
and what do we need to tackle today.
What’s it like to work on the breeder team?
We’re busy! The team is growing fast and our accounts are growing even faster. Most days are spent working closely with breeders to make sure they have all the tools they need to help their buyers cover their new puppies and kittens with Trupanion. Typically we spend our days bouncing between check-ins with existing accounts, research breeders that apply to join us, and ordering marketing materials for our breeders to share with their buyers. There’s always something to do. Never a dull moment.
Describe what it’s like to go to the dog
I had never been to a dog show before joining the breeder team and I had no idea what I was missing! All of the dogs you see are gorgeous and it’s hard not to want to take them home. Have you seen Best in Show? It’s a strangely accurate and wonderful depiction of what dog shows are like.
Favorite moment from the dog shows?
Some people don’t realize (at least I didn’t) that show dogs are some of the friendliest dogs. They are usually socialized at an early age, so they aren’t reactive around people or other dogs. Plus, they were meant to be adored. You should always ask the handler for permission first, but most of these dogs love pets and attention.
What do you value most about the work you do
We’re making a difference for new pet owners.
The breeders we partner with understand the importance of having insurance for
your pet and we’re giving them the tools they need to inform their new puppy
and kitten owners.
What is your dream job at Trupanion?
Breeder account manager.
Trupanion breeder account manager: a role to learn in and be surrounded by furry co-workers
We love pets. It’s our mission. And we love helping pet owners,
members, and breeders provide the best veterinary medical care for the pets
