Current role at Trupanion
manager of claims support.
How did your career journey start
I started with Trupanion in 2013 as a claims assistant. At the time, I had just graduated from college and was just looking for a job and had never heard of medical insurance for pets!
I saw that Trupanion was hosting a career fair and thought the concept was really intriguing so I decided to apply.
I very quickly realized Trupanion’s value and was excited to tell my family and friends all about it.
Fast forward to seven years later, I’ve moved to a couple of leadership roles (all within claims support) before becoming the Senior Manager of Claims Support in late 2019.
What do you love most about working
remotely at Trupanion?
I decided to work remotely so that I can move to be with my partner who was currently going through his post-grad program. I love that I’ve been able to enrich my personal life while still being able to work for and develop my professional career at Trupanion.
What do you love most about your
I love that I get to wear so many different hats! Also, I get to be involved with the individual development of my leaders and teams, as well as creating and implementing new systems that would impact our department’s workflow. There’s a large range of responsibilities and there’s something new to learn each week.
What is the favorite part of your
Honestly? My favorite part is being able to knock out my entire “to do”
list before the end of the day. I have days where I’m in back to back meetings
and collaborating on projects with my colleagues so that list just grows longer
and longer. It feels great to be able to see my progress and to cross off an
What’s it like to work on the
Trupanion claims team?
It varies from team to team. As a whole, claims team members are both independent and active collaborators with each other.
Also, everyone is driven to accomplish their goals but we reach out to each other to make sure we all succeed.
In addition, I would say that a good number of team members see their teams as an extension of their family, even while we work from home.
What inspires the work that you do?
My team. I’m so fortunate to have such a dedicated and hard-working group of managers. Also, I want to make sure I do everything that I can to set them and their teams up for success and to be able to meet any challenges ahead.
What do you value most about your
I value my managers and my colleague’s perspectives and insights, especially when they differ from mine.
Also, our ability to have productive and thoughtful discussions when we disagree with a change, a proposal, or even a solution is key to leading an effective team and department.
Further, we’ll not always be on the same page and these discussions are never easy, but I’m thankful for their candidness and willingness to share their points of view.
The Trupanion claims team is here to help pets every day
We want to help the pets we all love receive the best veterinary care possible. Whether we’re inspired by teamwork and collaboration or driven by our love of pets, every day of the week is different at Trupanion. Naturally, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Thank you Erin for sharing your
