What's covered
Comprehensive dental coverage for new, unexpected dental illness and injury, including:
- Extractions of permanent and baby (deciduous) teeth
- Coverage for retained baby teeth (if your pet is enrolled by 6 months old)
- Advanced dentistry, including caps (crowns)
- Endodontic treatments, including root canals
- Fractured jaw and/or fractured tooth repair
- Tooth resorption and tooth root abscesses

As with other pet insurance policies, a Trupanion policy does not cover pre-existing conditions consistent with dental disease.
To avoid pre-existing conditions, it helps to enroll your pet at a young age.

Treatment for all new dental illnesses and injury
HEALTHY PAWS
No dental coverage, except cost for extraction or reconstruction of teeth damaged in an accident.
EMBRACE
No treatment for dental illness. Treatment for new dental injuries, if approved by their Medical Director.
PETPLAN
If there are any signs of dental illness prior to enrolling, there is no coverage for any new and unrelated dental injuries or illnesses.
What's not covered: As with most pet insurance companies, a Trupanion policy will not cover teeth cleaning (prophylaxis) or its associated fees (such as anesthesia or pre-anesthetic blood work). We also do not cover toothbrushes and toothpastes or dental foods, chews, or rinses.
