Hip dysplasia
Up to $7K
About 1 in 5 German Shepherds shows hip dysplasia, one of the highest rates of any breed. A total hip replacement runs up to $7K per hip, and many dogs eventually need both.
Bloat (GDV)
Up to $10K
German Shepherd are among the breeds most at risk for bloat, where the stomach fills with gas and twists. Surgery plus the days of intensive care that follow can reach $10K.
Degenerative Myelopathy
Up to $8K
This is the spinal disease first named for the breed, and the SOD1 risk variant still runs high in German Shepherds. There is no cure, so the cost is in ongoing rehab, mobility support, and palliative care.

Roughly 60% of Golden Retrievers will face cancer, most often hemangiosarcoma or lymphoma. A full course of chemotherapy or radiation can run up to $10K depending on the type of treatment.
Hip Dysplasia

Close to 1 in 5 Goldens shows hip dysplasia at either 6 to 18 months old (due to joint looseness during rapid growth) or 4 to 8 years old (due to the onset of secondary osteoarthritis). Surgery reaches up to $7K per hip.
Elbow dysplasia

Golden Retrievers are one of the breeds most prone to elbow dysplasia, which tends to show up as front-leg limping in young, growing dogs. Arthroscopic surgery to clean up the joint runs up to $4K per elbow.

Hip dysplasia affects roughly 10%-20% of Doodles. Because Doodles inherit traits from both sides of their lineage, they remain highly susceptible to this condition.
