Still one plan, just with more

We’ve rolled our rider coverages for things like hydrotherapy, acupuncture, and rehabilitative therapy into the Trupanion Plan.
We love informed decisions. See our plan for full coverage details.

We've been innovating the pet health insurance industry for 20 years since we first launched with one simple plan paying 90% of veterinary costs with no payout limits. Since then we've been first to deliver things like coverage for hereditary and congenital conditions, 24/7/365 customer care, and proprietary software that lets us pay veterinarians directly at the time of checkout.

The Trupanion Plan is our latest innovation, and is designed to make veterinary care more accessible to more pet owners.

The Trupanion Plan FAQ

You have questions, we have answers.

To give veterinarians and pet owners more transparency into pets’ health insurance and freedom from burdensome medical expenses. We’ve expanded our standard coverage, provided more flexible payouts, and removed deductibles altogether.

No. Any pet signed up prior to the Trupanion Plan launch will stay on our legacy Trupanion policy.

No. Pets on the legacy Trupanion policy will remain on it, and any new pets enrolled in the state of Florida will automatically be enrolled into the Trupanion Plan.

Yes. It turns out that paying a deductible on top of the monthly price isn’t the best member experience. So we changed it.

Simply put, it’s the amount we’ll pay for any covered costs. Traditionally, we’ve paid 90% of the bill for any new injuries and illnesses.

Pet owners can increase their payout percentage anytime within the first 30 days. After 30 days, the payout percentage can only be decreased. Changes to the payout percentage take effect on the following billing date.

Yes. Our payout percentage includes eligible costs and the taxes associated with veterinary care. If we cover it, that includes the tax.

Yes. We’re excited to be able to offer the shortest combined waiting period in the industry: 12 days for both injuries and illnesses. We still waive those waiting periods for members who enroll with a Go Home Day Offer.

Yes. If you sell pets to homes in the state of Florida, you’ll need to use your Trupanion Plan Go Home Day Offer. Pets going to homes outside Florida will continue to receive their legacy offers.

The new Go Home Day Offer gives pet more immediate experience with the benefits of medical insurance. There’s no deductible to worry about.

Go Home Day Offers still give pet owners immediate coverage with no waiting period, and begin with a 50% payout percentage (and no deductible!) during the 30-day offer period.

Medical Record Summaries are personalized reports detailing a pet’s medical history. They list anything that existed before your buyer had coverage, so they can understand if something may fall under “pre-existing conditions.”

For pet owners who enroll to continue their coverage after the offer period, we will reach out to their veterinary team for the pet’s medical records. If we are unable to receive any medical records, we may not be able to offer coverage.

Should any medical records or previous diagnosis information become available at a later date, we reserve the right to update the Medical Record Summary to reflect that new information. This would only apply to conditions diagnosed before coverage began (pre-existing conditions).

To create a complete picture of a pet’s health and medical history. It gives veterinarians awareness of problems that are already showing signs, and it gives pet owners full transparency into what they can expect from their Trupanion Plan.

We’re the only provider giving members this level of transparency from the start. We think that informed members are happy members.

Not for Go Home Day Offers. However, pet owners must activate their offer within 24 hours of bringing their puppy home.

We will request any available medical records for the pet from the veterinary care team. If we cannot retrieve the necessary information, it will inhibit our ability to complete the Medical Record Summary. If we cannot complete the Medical Record Summary within the first 60 days, we will have to cancel the pet’s plan.

Our optional rider coverages are now included in the Trupanion Plan. This means that your coverage includes rehabilitation therapy, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, chiropractic care, behavior modification, homeopathy, naturopathy, and treatment for injuries or illnesses related to breeding.

Yes. For eligible issues, Trupanion will cover up to 90 days of prescription food over the course of a pet’s life. The amount of food we cover is based on standard feeding guidelines for the weight of the pet.
